Coachella inspires next big hair trends

Hair trends can be influenced by everything from art to celebrities to fashion, but the latest inspiration has emerged from the recent Coachella music festival.

(NZ) style experts including international artistic director Damien Carney, celebrity spokesperson George Papanikolas and international haircolor artistic director Sue Pemberton picked out the five big hair trends to watch – all stemming from Coachella.

Chic Crops

Excessive inches of hair were chopped off in favour of cropped coifs with rough edges to give the cuts a modern twist. The ends should be ragged and chipped along the bottom and around the ears in the case of the pixie.  Blunt ends give off too much of a conservative vibe,” says Carney.

Flowers in her Hair

Add a crown of white roses to an ordinary braid for a fun, feminine, flirty look. Other festival-friendly adornments included leather headbands and quirky sunglasses.

Ultra Blondes

Coachella’s best blondes were crystal clear and shimmering, creamy without a hint of warmth. Darker roots work for a rock ‘n roll edge, with the combination of sophisticated blonde with a shadow at the roots equaling grown-up grunge”, according to Carney.

New Waves

Modern waves were seen to go to the extremes – from soft, beach-formed loose shapes to crisply-formed, playful coils.

Ombré Achieves World Domination

The ombré colour effect of dark hair morphing into light was the major hair colour trend at Coachella. It can be natural and sunkissed or really make a strong, contrasting statement,” says Papanikolas. Pemberton adds, ombré effects are so popular, they’ve gone well beyond the original brown and blonde palettes.”

Products used to help get these looks include Joico’s Matte Grip Texture Crème, Smooth Cure Leave-In Rescue Treatment, K-PAK Color Therapy Restorative Styling Oil, VeroLight Crème Lightener, Vero K-PAK Color TSB/Silver Blonde Toner, Power Whip Whipped Foam and Power Spray Fast Dry Finishing Spray.
