Australians are spending $7 billion a year on body beauty including Botox, fake tans and fitness, according to business forecasting company IBISWorld.
The research found that consumers are spending an average $313 each annually on getting the perfect body – up 18.8 per cent on last year.
Around 130,000 Australians went under the knife or had non-surgical procedures every year, according to IBISWorld’s Australian general manager Karen Dobie.
The biggest growth area was seen to be cosmetic procedures, with popular choices including wrinkle freezing, fillers and laser hair removal. Spending in this sector was up 25 per cent on last year.
Another area of growth was beautician and day spa service revenue such as manicures, pedicures and massage therapy, however, big dollars are still being spent on haircuts, styling and treatments such as chemical straightening. Spray tans have also noticed an increase in spend.
