Australian-born brand Aesop is just one of the beauty brands joining Net-A-Porter in a move to introduce a new beauty section to the luxury shopping site. Launching today, The Quintessential Edit sees brands such as 3Lab, Beauty Works West, James Read, Ilia, Natura Bissé and Sarah Chapman, among others, stocked on the site.
Net-A-Porter’s managing director Alison Loehnis told WWD the introduction of beauty is a logical step for the site. As we’ve developed our content, beauty is such a big part of fashion. As we started to expand, it was a disconnect not to be able to offer beauty. By being at the front lines, we have an enormous amount of insight and exposure to talent and also product.”
Rather than a separate site, The Quintessential Edit will live on the existing Net-A-Porter site, making it a new category rather than an entire new business for the company. Loehnis says that while they have strong aspirations” for the beauty arm of the site, there are not plans for it to become a stand-alone online destination, with Net-A-Porter set to remain primarily a fashion business.
