It might be her baby (pun intended), but Mia Freedman is handing the Mamamia editor reins over to Jamilia Rizvi.
While she is stepping back from the day-to-day operations of the popular website, Freedman will still be heavily involved in her new role as publisher and editorial director of both Mamamia and its sister site iVillage.com.au.
Rizvi joined Mamamia in June last year as managing editor after spending four years in politics and public policy, including being the press secretary to Minister Kate Ellis.
I hired Jamila last year with a view to helping me take Mamamia to the next level. With her background in politics and women’s issues, she was uniquely suited to the diverse content and dynamic pace of Mamamia.com.au and the 24/7 nature of working online,” says Freedman.
Together we have overseen a dramatic growth in Mamamia’s readership, the launch of Mamamia’s radio show Mamamia Today on the Austereo network and a significant expansion of the website’s political and current affairs content. Jamila is one of the most capable people I’ve ever worked with.”
Rizvi adds, I’m incredibly proud to be part of this brand and to be leading such an outstanding team of writers and contributors as Mamamia continues to move from strength to strength.”
