Aussie journo named Guardian US editor

Australian media talents are continuing to climb their way to the top of the international industry, with the appointment of Lee Glendinning to the role of editor of the Guardian US’ operations.

Glendinning began her career at The Sydney Morning Herald, before taking on a reporting role at the Guardian in 2006. She started as as local correspondent, then worked her way up to deputy editor of Guardian Australia and finally, deputy editor of the Guardian US.

Guardian editor-in-chief Katherine Viner said of Glendinning’s most recent promotion: “Lee was an integral part of the success of Guardian Australia from the beginning, and has had a similarly dramatic impact on Guardian US, bringing excellent news judgment, digital flair and personal tenacity as well as strong management skills.”

She says she is confident about Glendinning’s appointment: “Having worked very closely with Lee for the last two years, I know that she will make Guardian US an even bigger success.”

With ambitions to extend audience reach and boost profitability for the digital paper within the US, Glendinning is eager to begin her role. “It is an incredible privilege to lead Guardian US as we continue to cover the stories that matter to our American audience and to deepen our engagement with readers around the world”, she told AdNews.
