“Tough retail conditions” have led to Bauer Media announcing the closure of Zoo Weekly magazine, including its assets across print, website and social media.
News of the publication’s closure comes on the back of it pulling out of the ABC in May, Coles withdrawing its sale of the magazine last month due to a petition from protest groups, and the website previously being retired and then reopened six months ago. The final edition of the magazine will go on sale on October 12.
“With tough retail conditions in the men’s market, Bauer has made the call to close Zoo’s operations. I would like to thank the teams here at Bauer, as well as the advertisers and retailers who have supported the brand,” says Bauer Media CEO David Goodchild.
Bauer men’s & specialist titles associate publisher Ewen Page adds: “The staff has done a great job on Zoo Weekly over the years and I commend their work and thank them for their dedication and effort. It is not an easy decision to close a magazine and we have certainly considered all options before coming to this conclusion.”
