Snapchat changes direction

While Snapchat may be renowned for the temporary sharing of images, the app is changing tact with its latest development. The platform’s new feature is called Memories, which allows photos to be saved and shared again at a later date.

Memories will be rolled out across the social media platform in August – the first time the app has allowed for the sharing of images that may not have been captured immediately beforehand.

Snapchat explains of its intention: “Memories is a new way to save snaps and stories on Snapchat. It’s a personal collection of your favorite moments that lives below the camera screen. Just swipe up from the camera to open Memories!

“You can use Memories to create new stories from snaps you’ve taken, or even combine different stories into a longer narrative! It’s fun to celebrate an anniversary or birthday by finding a few old snaps and stringing them together into a new story.”

The development will allow users to form albums for themselves – a searchable collection that can be shared again and again. It will also allow for the sharing of photos and videos taken outside of Snapchat, and offer a password-protected section titled ‘My Eyes Only’ for those after additional security.
