bdTrial: Mask magic

The BD team trial an array of face masks promising oodles of benefits.

Having reached the second half of winter, I’ve noticed the chilly weather has definitely taken a toll on my skin. It’s looking a little too dried out and dull for my liking, so I was thrilled to find out we would be trialling masks this week and The Body Shop Ethiopian Honey Deep Nourishing Mask did not disappoint. It left my skin feeling soft, supple and gave it a bit more of a glow. With 100 per cent vegetarian ingredients, I will definitely be adding this to my skincare routine. - Laura

Having just come back from a trip in Europe where I spent far too much time out in the sun, on board aeroplanes, and in chlorinated pools – let’s just say my skin is none too happy with me (and the feeling is mutual. Right now I can’t even bear to look at it in the mirror). As a result, I’ve gone into complete recovery mode. We’re talking serums, creams – and most importantly, a treatment mask. My product of choice is the Nightshift Resurfacing Mask – which works as an intensive skin booster while I sleep, helping my skin to be rejuvenated, illuminated, as well as stimulating the cellular function. Give me a couple more goes with this mask, and I’m sure my skin and I will be on better terms…  - Yelena

A classic case of winter face is a malady bestowed on most of the population at this time of year. Unless you pack up camp and head to Greece like the rest of my Facebook friends, the best way to treat the sallow skin and patchy complexion of the unfortunately unavoidable winter face is a good old fashioned face mask. AHAVA’s interpretation boosts radiance and texture of the skin with a rich combination of dead sea minerals, palm date extract, goji berries and argan oil. - Sarah

They say you never forget your first – and when it comes to face masks – mine was KORA Organics. Fast forward a number of years and I’ve rekindled the flame with the brand’s irresistible Hydrating Mask. The calming face mask cleans, rehydrates and protects the skin, which are benefits not only more important as we age, but also when the conditions are as harsh as they are in winter. Containing certified organic noni extract, vitamins and minerals to refine pores, remove dead skin cells and promote healthy tissue rejuvenation, the mask is an all-over pick-me-up for the complexion. To top it off, it’s free from sulphates, parabens and silicones, as well as synthetic fragrance and colours. - Ally

I get particularly excited for beauty products that you feel working the instant you put them on. Containing Nordic forest lake mud which binds toxins and heavy metals to eliminate them, MÁDARA’s Ultra Purifying Mud Mask has consistently given my skin the deep clean it needs after a full week of wearing make-up (and maybe one or two nights of “forgetting” to take my make-up off). This mask is truly heaven sent! - Sophia

I’m not really sure why gals’ nights in are synonymous with a face mask. I guess all those ‘90s chick flicks really perpetuated stereotypes. Oh well, they’re fun stereotypes. My gal pal came over recently for said ‘gals’ night in’ and we dosed up on chocolate and slathered our faces with the Doctor BABOR Ultimate Repair Mask. Given we were having a night off from Champagne, therefore letting our livers regenerate, it seemed apt that we were using a face mask that offered such skin regenerating support. With or without my trusty sidekick, I’ll be using this rich and luxe mask at least once a week so I can keep watching my skin thrive. - Kelly
