It's always encouraging to hear that a new magazine has launched onto the market. Even more so when that magazine claims to offer something completely unique to its audience.
Enter Mama Disrupt, a new publication aimed at (as the title suggests) mums. However, despite what comes to mind when hearing the name, Mama Disrupt will provide no parenting advice but instead help mothers to feel empowered as they adjust to parenthood.
Ex-London lawyer Jessica Sammut always felt there was very little content that talked directly to young mothers who were interested in indie media. Her solution? Fill that gap in the market with an inspiring lifestyle publication that mums can delve into whenever they have some precious free time.
Sammut told Mumbrella that she felt there was a serious lack of diversity between millennial fashion magazines and those for an older generation. “I went from reading marie claire in my 20s to being expected to read a parenting publication like Mother and [Baby] or Practical Parenting, which are all fantastic publications but they all tell you how to parent, it’s not a lifestyle publication you can sit down and gain inspiration from, it’s something that actually ended up making me feel bad about my mothering.”
The magazine will come out quarterly but will also be available across three platforms: as an app and as a digital version via the website, in addition to the print version. In terms of content, readers can expect to see a habitat section, fashion shoots, illustrations and columns throughout.
Mama Disrupt is out now and available internationally. Sammut is also currently in talks with Sarah Jessica Parker who is reportedly interested in coming on board for a future issue.
