Stella McCartney announces new move in beauty

According to an article by WWD, fashion designer Stella McCartney is foraying into the beauty world for the second time in 16 years, with the launch of a brand new skincare line called Stella.

Created in close partnership with McCartney’s minority partners, LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, the brand is launching with three products: a cleanser, cream and serum.

True to McCartney’s minimalist style, the line is a project that aims to be eco-friendly, with the fewest number of products and ingredients as possible.

Suitable for all skin types, the collection contains only 100% certified-organic ingredients. The active ingredients, which have been reviewed by Ecocert, contain greater amounts of essential nutrients than non-organic ones. Each product is also cruelty-free, certified vegan and regulated.

The ingredients are sourced in northern Europe and created from upcycled food waste such as squalene and cherry blossom extract. The line also contains organic rock samphire, which is rich in unsaturated and saturated fatty acids, and phytosterols to smooth fine lines and wrinkles.

“I am not that person who wants to buy into a million products for different areas of my face,” McCartney said. “I don’t want all of that stuff in my life. I want less, and I want it to work. I want it to be honest and to complement my way of thinking, and of living life. I obviously wanted to do the cleanest skincare that we could do in luxury, the purest of the pure.”

McCartney and a dedicated team from LVMH worked on the formulations and packaging for three years. The scent (described as fresh and grassy) has chief notes of clove leaf, pine resin and mentholated eucalyptus.

The vision for the beauty products was inspired by McCartney’s childhood spent in the Scottish outdoors, living on a farm on the Kintyre peninsula in western Scotland.
