Junkee Media has announced it has purchased pop-culture favourite TheVine, as well as recruited its former owner for a new development.
The publication is a social media juggernaut with a primarily millennial audience that has had 11 million video views on Facebook alone in the last few months.
The site’s booming social channels are the result of dedicated efforts by former owner Tom Pitney. His skills have seem him snapped up by Junkee Media to lead a new social mobile-focused development.
Says Junkee Media publisher Tim Duggan of Pitney to B&T: “He has the rare combination of natural editorial talent mixed with entrepreneurial skills, and he’s going to be a great asset for Junkee Media as we grow our social mobile video reach even further.”
Despite the acquisition, TheVine plans to continue operating as per usual.
