The newspaper girls ramping up their beauty pages

It's an essential part of community life on the Northern Beaches, with local residents turning to the Manly Daily each week to find out what's happening in their area.

Now the newspaper is adding to its offering of celebrating local heroes, covering events and news from the region, plus shopping opportunities with a new, ramped up beauty section.

To find out more about Manly Daily's increased beauty content, BD sat down with the newspaper’s news editor Louise Roberts and journalist Sarah Swain.

Can you tell me a bit about your career history?
Swain: I've worked as a reporter covering news as well as fashion and showbiz for the Evening Times in Glasgow, Scotland; as a features and lifestyle writer for weekly celeb mag Ahlan! in Dubai, and now I'm a reporter for the Manly Daily. I also write a dating column called Single in Sydney for dailytelegraph.com.au.

Roberts: I've been a magazine editor in London and New York before moving to Sydney to edit magazines and launch my own news and PR business. I re-joined News Corp soon after.

What is your role at Manly Daily?
Swain: I'm a journalist, covering general news, but also taking on the fashion and beauty and celebrity rounds to write the column.

Roberts: I am the news editor in charge of news and feature content produced by journalists both in print and online. I am also a weekly columnist for the Daily Telegraph and RendezView.

In terms of beauty, what will your role involve?
Swain: We're looking for more beauty content for the Manly Daily to appeal to Northern Beaches women. We'd like to feature must-have new products available on the Northern Beaches, visiting and local celebrities, as well as glamorous events being held here and any more beauty-related news with a local angle.

Roberts: We're also very keen on new and unusual beauty trends that Northern Beaches people might like to try.

Are you looking forward to working in beauty media?
Swain: I'm thrilled about widening my role to include beauty again, having done quite a bit on the paper in Glasgow.

Roberts: We're excited to be boosting our beauty and lifestyle news content with a very upbeat, fresh and aspirational Northern Beaches feel.

What can we expect from the Manly Daily beauty pages in the future?
Swain: Lots more exciting content!

Roberts: Fresh, exciting and a real USP [unique selling point] for achievable and beachy glamour.
