Instagram use is on the up and up, with the social media app confirming it has reached the milestone of 500 million users. That’s 300 million active users daily logging on - a figure that has doubled in the past two years.
Numbers-wise, Instagram has surpassed both Twitter and Snapchat, which have 320 million monthly users and 100 million daily users respectively. Popularity for Instagram is booming abroad, with 80 per cent of users confirmed to be based outside of the US. This is a jump from the 75 per cent recorded last September and refers largely to countries Japan, Germany, Indonesia and France.
Interestingly, while numbers may continue to grow, engagement has not necessarily followed suit. While monthly users have jumped from 300 to 500 million, there has only been an increase in photo uploading from 25 to 95 million per day.
