Clairol has launched the world’s first virtual-hair-colour app in collaboration with augmented reality creators ModiFace. Dubbed myshade, the mobile application features photo-realistic hair colouration technology that can be applied by simply uploading a selfie.
The app works by importing a user’s photo and then applying different hair colours to the subject using augmented reality technology. Users are able to virtually try every colour in the Nice’n Easy at-home hair colouring range, from the very lightest to the darkest.
The revolutionary new technology means that those who were unable to commit to drastically changing their hair colour before are now able to try out multiple hair colours before taking the plunge.
CEO of ModiFace, Parham Arabi, has confirmed the immense benefits of the app, saying: “Clairol’s myshade app is a vital tool for anyone who has ever considered colouring their hair, because it offers photo-realistic colour results that let consumers try a new colour before they commit.
“We’re thrilled to bring this technology to the hair colour category because it takes into account many variables that can impact real-life results. This is the perfect union of augmented reality try-on and AI-based recommendations that can provide a very beneficial digital tool for consumers.”
Augmented reality, especially in the beauty industry, is increasingly gaining traction as facial recognition technology becomes more advanced, as evidenced by cutting-edge features demonstrated in myshade.
myshade is available to download from the iTunes and Google play stores now.
