Beauty behemoth L'Oréal is always thinking about how it can infuse technology with the many well-established brands in its group. And its latest invention, a hairbrush that encourages users to brush their hair more efficiently, is set to help bring the bathroom into a digital era.
Aptly named the Kérastase Hair Coach, the brush uses an array of sensors and an app to educate users on exactly how to brush their hair more efficiently. The brush is wi-fi enabled and connects to your smartphone to collect the data. The sensors can detect motion and track whether your hair is wet or has product in it, and then how forcefully you brush.
A microphone also enables the accompanying smartphone app to tell you how healthy your hair is. According to L'Oréal's researchers, the way the hair sounds as a brush moves through it changes based on how dry the hair is. Using these sounds, the app can provide a score based on your hair's health and then recommend a line of products (in L'Oréal's stable) and other steps you can take to improve the quality of your hair.
The product is being debuted at this week's CES (a global consumer electronics and consumer technology tradeshow) in Las Vegas that focuses on internet-connected home devices that are being launched over the coming year.
The Kérastase Hair Coach is reportedly going to cost less than $US200 and will launch in autumn this year at Kérastase hair salons as well as online.
