Aussies are afraid to admit to dieting

A quarter of Australians are currently on a diet, but many of them won’t admit it, according to the Tony Ferguson Weightloss Poll 2013. Conducted by Galaxy Research, the study found that 54 per cent of those on a diet are too embarrassed to admit it.

While the reasons for going on a diet are plentiful – health reasons” being the most obvious explanation – reasons for keeping it a secret are a little more complex.

The Tony Ferguson Weightloss Poll 2013 shows the biggest reason for being so secretive is fear of failure (25%), having to admit you are overweight (17%), worries about being judged (17%) and frustration of dieting in the past only to put weight back on (17%).

In response to the apparent stigma attached to being on a diet, Tony Ferguson Weightloss has introduced the Share The Weight campaign, which aims to make weight loss an experience to be proud of. Since early January 2013, more than 27,000 visitors to ShareTheWeight.com.au have pledged to lose a total of more than 514 tonnes, towards a national goal of 10,000 tonnes.

We want to create a happier and healthier Australia,” Tony Ferguson says. It’s our honest wish that this will be the last weight loss program people ever do.”
