Samsung announces breakthrough skincare technology

You might not associate Samsung with beauty, but the electronics giant has just announced it will be unveiling two technology-focused skincare solutions this month.

In a bid to reduce resources associated with dermatological care, S-Skin is Samsung's home skincare analysis solution. The device contains a micro needle patch that penetrates and analyses the skin before deploying ingredients that will help to improve its condition. The portable device is able to measure hydration, redness and melanin of the skin, and then uses LED light to offer bespoke remedies. It also comes with an app that monitors skin's condition over time, something that the brand is confident will appeal to a digitally savvy audience.

The second creation announced is Lumini, another portable device that highlights an individual's skin problems before they even occur. Harnessing the popularity of the selfie culture, users take a photo of their face with Lumini which then uses its own algorithm to evaluate the skin condition. Information is then sent to a smartphone app.

The device will identify potential problems under the skin including increased pores, wrinkles, redness, pimples and freckles, and then make recommendations around suitable cosmetics to purchase. The outcome is that these skincare problems can be prevented or at least reduced.

The news about Samsung's skincare devices comes shortly after L'Oréal announced it has created a 'Smart' hairbrush. Could 2017 be the year of serious advancements in the world of beauty tech? We'll have to watch this space.
