The most valuable cosmetic brands in the world

Each year, the world’s biggest cosmetics brands are put to the test, as brand valuation and strategy consultancy Brand Finance teams up with Cosmetics Business’ SPC Magazine to determine the most powerful and valuable brands across the globe.

The results for the Brand Finance Cosmetics 50 are in, with L’Oréal Paris claiming the number one spot, boasting a record brand value of $US11.2 billion - up 15 per cent from 2014. “L'Oréal has pulled off the trick of simultaneously capturing the mass market while maintaining an air of exclusivity. L'Oréal is a powerhouse of brand creation. The key to its success is its unrivalled marketing focus and investment,” says Brand Finance chief executive David Haigh.

As for conglomerates, Procter & Gamble took top honours with listings for Gillette, Pantene, Olay, Head & Shoulders, Clairol, SK-II, Cover Girl, Max Factor, Old Spice and Wella. Collectively, P&G’s brands are the most valuable brands in the top 50, totalling $US27.46 billion.

Overall, the cosmetics industry is looking positive with the total brand value of the world’s top 50 cosmetics brands increasing 13 per cent from last year to $US106 billion.
