With eight years experience in the beauty industry, Bauer Media is thrilled to announce Elise Wilson has been appointed the new editor of BEAUTYDIRECTORY New Zealand and beauty editor at Simply You Style and Simply You Living magazines.
Wilson has most recently been beauty editor at M2woman, having moved to the title from her previous role as beauty editor at New Idea magazine.
“Elise is well-established within the beauty industry and I’m sure our advertising partners will be very happy with this appointment. In addition, her digital experience will be fantastic for Simply You and we will be sharing some great new developments on BEAUTYDIRECTORY very soon,” says Simply You editor and manager of special projects Naomi Larkin.
Here, BD chats to Wilson to discover more about the position...
Congratulations on your new role! Can you tell me what it will involve?
Thanks! The role will comprise of me collating all the beauty pages across Simply You Style and Living magazines, as well as collating and managing the content of BEAUTYDIRECTORY New Zealand on a daily basis. It’s going to be busy, so it’s a good job I’m a great multitasker.
What appealed to you about the position?
For one, Simply You magazine is amazing and I’ve always loved it. It’s the one title I have aspired to work for since I started out in this industry at 19! Secondly, the online aspect of BEAUTYDIRECTORY seemed like a perfect fit for me because of my blogging background. I love the immediacy of online and the fact I can have a bit more creative control over the site, whereas with Simply You I can focus on more in-depth articles, beauty trends and the fun editorial side. It’s the best of both worlds.
How will you divide your time between the two titles?
At this point the job will be split half and half during the week. Each role is very involved so I think I’ll always be wearing a few hats at the same time to juggle between the two.
Will you continue working on your blog?
I would love to, but I think The Beauty Gloss will have to take a bit of a back seat for now. My blog has been such a great learning curve over the last year that has expanded my knowledge on everything from advertising, social media, WordPress and Photoshop, which are all skills that will help me in this new role.
What will a normal working week look like for you?
I definitely know that no two days will be the same! I will be busy collating content across BEAUTYDIRECTORY New Zealand daily, working on editorial features on Simply You, product shooting, meeting with key advertisers, attending beauty launches and assisting our editorial team in any way needed.
What are you most excited about in regards to the new role?
I’m most excited about working with such a great team! Simply You also has a new editor and it’s great to join now and be involved in a bit of a brand refresh, and learn the ropes of a completely new title. I think it’s a perfect time for a new challenge and to take my career in a new direction with two great brands.
